One Question I specifically went out to ask at the BrahMos Pavilion during the recent Asian Defense and Security (ADAS) 2024 Event was how many Missile Firing Units (MFU) or Missile Launchers does the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) have for each of their BrahMos Missile Batteries?
That Information has rarely been mentioned in all of the News Reports about the PMC’s BrahMos Units that I have seen. In fact, I remember seeing it only once, back in August of 2022 when no less than Atul Rane, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Manufacturer of the Missile, BrahMos Aerospace, said it was only six MFUs for three Batteries, or around two MFUs per Battery.
I even made a Video about it back then. But that information has never been confirmed, again it was rarely mentioned, if at all after that. Well I was able to confirm that information though during the ADAS Event, but not thru the BrahMos People, but with the PMC itself.
The BrahMos Representatives at the Event though were not as open about sharing Information, definitely not like the ones during the Philippine Fleet Defense Expo (PFDX) that was held in May of last Year of 2023.
I’m not sure why, perhaps its just their reaction to the recent Black Propaganda that was aimed at the PMC’s BrahMos Units that said one Missile supposedly exploded when it was launched. Frankly I wasn’t even aware of that News until I saw the Indian Press denying it. It was later reportedly traced back to Pakistan as the Instigator of the Propaganda.
Anyway, I was a bit disappointed at the low number of MFUs per Battery, I thought it was bad enough that the number of Missiles per MFU was reduced to only two instead of three. I was actually expecting no less than three and no more than five MFUs per Battery.
This brings to only four BrahMos Missiles that are ready to fire for the PMC for each Battery, and a total of twelve Missiles ready for all the three Batteries. Still I think this is good, remember that these BrahMos are the only Land-based Anti-Ship Missile that the Philippines has right now.
After these, the Philippines only has Howitzers and the Tube-launched, Optically-tracked and Wireless-guided (TOW) Missiles that could serve somewhat effectively as Coastal or Land-based Anti-Ship Weapons.
The Philippine Army (PA) though seems to have increased their planned acquisition of the same BrahMos Land-based Systems from only two to four Batteries, as I had made a Video about last November of 2023, so more could be coming.
