The current Senate President of the Philippines Francis Escudero said last Month of November 2024 that the Missiles that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) bought from India several Years ago just ended up in an ordinary Warehouse because there was no funding for the storage of them in Zambales.
Quoting from the Newspaper Article itself, "For instance, the Senate President said the AFP purchased Php 8 billion worth of Missiles from India three years ago that are still stockpiled in a Warehouse today because it failed to allocate funding for the Storage of the Missiles in a Base in Zambales."
Now, there are some inconsistencies on Escudero's Statement that makes it a bit confusing. First of all, the only Missile that the AFP bought from India that has been made Public is none other than the PJ-10 BrahMos Missile.
But the Contract for these was signed in 2022, or only two Years ago and not three as he mentioned in his Statement. Also, the amount signed for the Contract was Php 18.9 billion and not just Php 8 billion as he mentioned.
The Fact that he mentioned the Place "Zambales" though indicates that the Missiles he is referring to are likely either for the Philippine Navy (PN) or the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) since they are the ones with prominent Bases in that Area.
The only other Country where we bought Missiles from for the PN and PMC is Israel, so it is possible that Escudero somehow mistook "India" for "Israel" since they have the same starting Letter "I" in their Names. The PN bought two Types of Missiles from Israel, the Spike-Extended Range (ER) and the Spike-Non-Line of Sight (NLOS).
The Spike-ER is being used on the Multi-Purpose Attack Craft (MPAC) Mk 3 Vessels while the Spike-NLOS are being used on the Fast Attack Interdiction Craft-Missile (FAIC-M) Vessels and AW159 Wildcat Helicopters of the PN.
However, it is also possible that Escudero indeed was referring to the BrahMos Missiles, but somehow just mixed up all of the other Details about it.
Nevertheless, whether it is the Spike or BrahMos Missile, if the Issue is indeed true, then of course it is not good for them to be just stored in an ordinary Warehouse, best if they are indeed stored in a Proper Environment where all the proper Security and Safety Concerns are addressed.
I hope that this Issue will be solved soon since those Weapons are worth billions of Pesos, so they need to be kept in a Proper Place.
