It looks like the Israeli Company, “Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Limited” have just completed the delivery of their Surface-to-air Python and Derby (SPYDER) Surface to Air Missile (SAM) System when they delivered the third and last Battery to the Philippine Air Force (PAF) recently.
The Notice to Proceed (NTP) for these Units was released back in 2019 under the Administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, and each Battery cost around Usd 43 million, or approximately Php 2 billion each back then when the Exchange Rate was still around Php 48 per Dollar.
The SPYDER-Medium Range (SPYDER-MR) uses the Python and Improved-Derby (I-Derby) Missiles and has a range of approximately 50 km, enough to cover from Baliuag in Bulacan to Calamba in Laguna if deployed in the Center of the National Capital Region (NCR) as I had posted a Video about before.
On a Side Note, the PAF has always been quite vague when it comes to this System, it seems to me that they are hoping to get some Advantage against China by not releasing much information about it. In this Instance, for Example, they didn’t announce the completion of the Delivery, they just said it was a new Delivery, that it was being inspected and blessed.
I only noticed the completion when in a couple of the Pictures, they showed all three Batteries of it in the Background. I don’t agree with this Policy, of course, surely they themselves know that as a Superpower, China has very considerable Intelligence-gathering Capabilities, not to mention the number of Combat Aircraft and Missiles that they have.
Such withholding of Information I think will only result in a Majority of the Taxpayers out there not being informed of how their Money is being spent. But I do respect the PAF’s Policy, if that is how they want Things to be.
Anyway, the Pictures also confirm again that each PAF SPYDER-MR Battery has three Missile Firing Units (MFU) or Missile Launchers, and each of those contain four Missiles. So in total, each Battery will have twelve Missiles that are ready to fire.
