The Turkish Company, "Aselsan AS" recently confirmed on their Facebook Page that the BRP Miguel Malvar (FF-06) Guided Missile Corvette of the Philippine Navy (PN) will be equipped with their Gokdeniz Close In Weapons System (CIWS)

Aselsan said, "The Launching of the Philippine Navy BRP Miguel Malvar Corvette, built by Hyundai Heavy Industries, on which Aselsan Gokdeniz is installed, was conducted successfully in South Korea.

This Piece of News confirms what the Manufacturer told me during the Asian Defense and Security (ADAS) Event back in 2022 and which I have made a Video about in May of that Year also, that the Gokdeniz CIWS will be the ones that will be used on these Corvettes.

This is historic in that these will be the first Gun-based CIWS that will be installed on the PN’s Ships. The Jose Rizal class Guided Missile Frigates use the Missile-based “Simbad-RC” as CIWS which uses the Mistral 3 Surface to Air Missile (SAM) System.

The Gokdeniz is based on the "Skysea" Close Air Defense System which uses twin 35 mm caliber Cannons which has a Rate of Fire of 1,100 rpm and has its own Ballistic Computer, Shot Control Radar and Electro-Optical (EO) System.

The Gokdeniz can use Target Practice (TP) and High Explosive Incendiary (HEI) Rounds, and also the specialized "Atom" Programmable Smart Munition which can be timed to explode near the Target and shower it with Shrapnel.

The Atom Munitions of course will be more effective against certain Targets like Missiles, but will also be more expensive due to their added complexity.

The Jose Rizal class Frigates have “Fitted For But Not With (FFBNW)” CIWS, so for the sake of Commonality I think it would be ideal for them to use the same System also. And the Tarlac class Landing Docks (LD) also lack more sophisticated Defensive Weapons, so I think it would be ideal for those to be equipped with these also.
