Troops of the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) were seen practicing how to destroy a Bridge with what looks like Composition-4 (C-4) Explosives during a recent Military Exercise. This Practice is called the "Strategic Demolition of Critical Infrastructure", and one of its purpose is to delay or deny the advancement of Enemy Troops, and to neutralize Enemy Forces as well if the Situation allows it.
By delaying the Enemy, this could give the Marines more time to regroup or wait for reinforcements. Another Purpose is to disrupt the Enemy's Supply Lines, making it harder for them to carry supplies back and forth from and to their advancing Forces.
This is not just a question of putting Explosives everywhere and then detonating them, one has to know where best to put the Explosives and how much to use to make for an efficient destruction of the Bridge, and that takes some Engineering Knowledge and Calculations.
However of course, such destruction of a vital Infrastructure could bring even more suffering and hardships to the Civilian Population within that particular Area. Now I am not blaming the Philippine Marines if they do something like this, they are just doing their Job, and it is great that they are good at it.
But I am pointing out one of the Hard Realities of War, that many of our existing Infrastructures will be destroyed not just because of Enemy Bombing but also out of necessity by our own Forces, and such destruction will eventually bring more suffering to the Filipino People.
Just think of all the Time, Money and Effort in Terms of constructing that Bridge which is just going to be destroyed. And then think again of all the Time, Money and Effort that will need to be done just to rebuild that Bridge.
This is just one of the many Grim Facts that the Filipino People may have to face soon if our Country does go into a possible War with China.
