What is happening to our Country? Well whatever it is, some of it are good, like when a couple of Units of the Philippine Army (PA) were recently spotted using AK-47-type Assault Rifles.
One of these Units was the 106th Infantry "Tigpanalipod" Battalion of the 1st Infantry Division whose Troops were seen using AK-47 Rifles when conducting Drills and Patrols. Not all of the Troops in the Squad were issued the AK Rifles though, by my count only around three per Squad.
Another Unit was the 1st Field Artillery "Beat 'Em" Battalion of the Army Artillery Regiment (AAR) who were given Marksmanship Training by Subject Matter Experts of the AK Rifle Platform recently. The Rifles were described as being "newly issued" to the Troops, and based on the Pictures, unlike with the 106th Infantry Troops, not just some but all of the Troops were using AK-47 Rifles.
Not sure where these AK Rifles came from, whether they were the ones that were donated by China and Russia during the time of former President Rodrigo Duterte, or if these were newly bought, or maybe even a combination of the two.
There is also no information on what caliber these AK Rifles being used are now, whether they are in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) caliber 5.56 x 45 mm, or if they are in the the Russian 7.62 x 39 mm caliber or maybe even 5.45 x 39 mm caliber.
I'm not very optimistic though that there will be more adoption of the AK Platform by the Philippine Armed Forces now under the Administration of Bong Bong Marcos (BBM) because he is intent on siding with the West than having good Relations with China and Russia, so that means that the AR Platform being used by the West will likely continue its dominant Role in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
So these maybe the last we've seen of these with the AFP, at least for now.
