Both Miguel Malvar class Corvettes of the Philippine Navy to be delivered in 2025

The first of two Corvettes that the Manufacturer "Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI)” is making for the Philippine Navy (PN) was finally launched recently in South Korea, it will be known as the “BRP Miguel Malvar (FF-06)”, hence these two Ships will be known as the “Malvar-class” Vessels.

The Event was attended by high ranking Officials from both the Department of National Defense (DND) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). According to South Korean Reports, the Vessel will be 118.4 m long, 14.9 m in Width, have a speed of up to 28 kph and a range of up to 8,330 km.

The Ship will be equipped with Anti-Ship Missiles, Vertical Launch System (VLS) Cells and an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar. As I have made a previous Video about before, the Vessels will be equipped with the “Naval Combat System” as its Combat Management System (CMS) which made is by the South Korean Company, “Hanwha Systems”.

The BRP Malvar is scheduled for delivery next Year of 2025. The second Corvette will be launched in December of this Year of 2024 and then will also be delivered in 2025. Previous News Reports said that the second Corvette will be delivered in 2026, so it seems that the Delivery Timeline for the second Vessel has been speeded up.

So if these Schedules holds up, then both of the Malvar-class Ships will be delivered by next Year which shows fast delivery by the Manufacturer.

The Ships also seem to have been reclassified from Corvettes to Frigates, as indicated by its “FF” Designation for Frigates instead of the “PS” Designation for Corvettes as per the Standard PN Designation Rules. However, the PN has not issued any official Statements about this yet that I am aware of as of this writing.

A close look at one of the High Resolution Pictures of the BRP Malvar shows that it will have 12 VLS Cells in three Rows of four Cells. This is a bit less than what I saw of its Scale Model at the 2022 Asian Defense and Security (ADAS) Event in Pasay City
