Philippines finally signs delayed Agreement for Gripens, but may get F-16s also

The Countries of the Philippines and Sweden finally signed an Agreement last May 17, 2024 that provides the Documental Framework for the Philippines to acquire the JAS-39 Gripen Fighter Aircraft from Sweden.

As I have made a previous Video about before, the News 5 Publication earlier this February of 2024 reported that the Philippines and Sweden were supposed to sign this Agreement on March 2024 in Sweden, but that Month came and went without an Announcement being made.

No News about it has come out since then, until this latest News, so that’s a Delay of around two Months. The News 5 Article reported before that a dozen Gripens will be acquired for Usd 1.2 billion, or Usd 100 million per Aircraft.

The Defense Minister of Sweden Pal Jonson will be visiting the Philippines on the first Week of next Month of June 2024, so it is possible that some sort of an Announcement will be made about the Gripen acquisition during his visit.

Sweden had initially refused the sale of their Aircraft to the Philippines under the Administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte. It was only after it became apparent that the new President Bong Bong Marcos (PBBM) was Pro-United States (US) and Anti-China that they began sucking up again to the Philippines to buy their Aircraft.

Interestingly, the latest News Reports also mentions that according to unnamed Sources within the Philippine Military, the planned acquisition of Multi-Role Fighter (MRF) Aircraft under the new "Re-Horizon Three" Modernization Plan of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will be "Multi-Platform" that would result in a "Mixed Fleet".

If so, then this would pave the Way for the possible acquisition also of the other MRF Candidate that the Philippines is considering, the F-16 Fighting Falcon Aircraft.

As I also made a Video about before, the US has yet to satisfactorily compensate the Philippines for the gifting to them by PBBM of nine Military Bases in the Philippines, hence our Country should demand from the US to get the same Quantity and Terms as what the Country of Argentina got for their F-16 Aircraft.

If the Philippines doesn’t get at least the same Deal as that of Argentina’s, then this will be just another Example of the Philippines being shortchanged by the US despite its subservience to them, especially under this new Administration.
