PN Malvar-class Corvette News

March 27, 2025: BRP Malvar Delivery Ceremony done, to depart South Korea soon; BRP Silang Launching also done, to be delivered in September 2025
Some of the latest News about the Malvar-class Corvettes of the Philippine Navy (PN)

* The BRP Diego Silang (FFG-07), the second of two Malvar-class Guided Missile Corvettes of the PN, has been launched (meaning transferred to the Water for the first time) at the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. It is scheduled to be delivered to the Philippines later this Year of 2025 in September.

* Meanwhile, the Lead Ship of the Malvar-class Corvettes, the BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06), has been given its Delivery Ceremony at about the same time as the BRP Silang. It is scheduled to depart on March 31, 2025 and arrive in Subic on around April 7 or 8, 2025.

MY NOTES:
Somebody asked me in the Comments Section of the previous News I gave about the Malvar-class Vessels on why I still keep calling them as “Corvettes”. Well because the PN has not yet officially said anything about the change in the Designation of the Vessels, so until they do, I will keep calling them as “Corvettes” as they initially did.

The PN nor the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) have not yet said anything about these Launching and Delivery Ceremonies, it is understandable as they tend to be “Conservative” when revealing News about the Delivery of these Assets, especially since we have a lot of Tension with China and that their Route will take them near that Country.

However, these Pieces of News I am reporting are already all over the South Korean and even Philippine Press as of now.

Of course I don’t think China will do anything about these Ships during their Delivery, but trust the United States (US) and their loyal Pinoy Doggies to use any News they can get hold of such as this to DEMONIZE China as Part of their Propaganda.

And oh, as usual, so nobody will forget, the Contract for these Vessels was signed in December 2021 under the Administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

March 3, 2025: BRP Miguel Malvar delivery moved from March to April 2025, Send Off will be at the End of March
Some Updates on the Malvar-class Corvettes from the Chief of the Philippine Navy (PN), Vice Admiral Jose Ezepeleta recently, and these are:

* The BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06) will arrive early of next Month of April, 2025.

* A Send Off Ceremony for the BRP Malvar and the Launching of the BRP Diego Silang (FFG-07) will made on the same Day sometime at the End of this Month of March, 2025.

MY NOTES:
It seems there is a Delay in the Delivery of the BRP Malvar, it was scheduled to be delivered this Month. But then again, as you can see from the Picture Updates on this Album, it has been changed a couple ot times in the Past.

The initial Schedule was the second Part of this Year of 2025, then moved up to March 2025, and now moved down again to April. The Contract for these two Vessels were signed in December of 2021 under the Administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Strangely I don’t remember being announced back then, it was only when the BRP Malvar was launched when they announced the Date of the Contract Signing. It seems some People were able to convince Digong to keep Things quiet back then.

Up to now the PN still has not officially announced the reclassification of these “Corvettes” into Frigates or something else, despite the Fact that its Classification Initials is now “FFG” instead of “PS”. I don’t know when they’ll do it, maybe during the Send Off.

The Jose Rizal class Frigates is using the Classification Initial of “FF”, so I wonder what “FFG” will mean officially? Hopefully not “Frigate, Guided Missile” like they do with the United States Navy (USN), because then we’d be following the USN again.
