Short Video Clips of the of the Joint Task Force Sulu’s (JTF-Sulu) operation against a Fast Boat of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) last November 3, 2020 were released about a week ago, but here is a longer, more complete Video (almost 5 minutes long) from which those seem to have been taken from.
As we can see, the Video was of a Display Console from which the operation was being monitored. We can also hear the voices of some of the People involved in the operation.
The operation was carried out by Philippine Air Force (PAF), Philippine Navy (PN) and Philippine Army (PA) Personnel and/or Assets, and some of the Assets used were the AW109 Helicopters and Multi-Purpose Assault Craft (MPAC) Mk 3.
And here are some of my observations about the Video:
* There seems to be two AW109 Helicopters, the Video seems to be taken from one of them.
* The Pilot in Command of the other AW109 Helicopter providing Close Air Support (CAS) was a Woman, so this is a big boost for all Women Pilots out there.
* The spread of the bullets from the .50 cal. Machine Guns seem a bit wide, I think a guided Missile would’ve done the job better. But of course it would’ve been more expensive and as of now it doesn’t seem like our AW109 Helicopters are qualified to use any guided Missile yet.
* The Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) used in Video doesn’t seem to have Automatic Tracking of objects, which seems a bit strange because there are a lot of Videos out there of other EO/IR Systems which has that feature. Auto-tracking is actually quite common nowadays, my old DJI Spark Drone has it, so has those new Gimbal Cameras like the DJI Osmo Pocket has it.
* The MPAC initially passed close to the Boat, but made another pass that ran over the Boat which finally stopped it in the water
